NAT
ok, so whenever i try to join a game on medieval it says NAT Negotiation failed. I dont really know what this means i should do so, any ideas?

Decimus Aquila- 06-04-2007

NAT could mean many things. The first you should check is your CD-key. This has happened once to many to players and me, (actually it is supposed to point out wronge CD key, but for some reasons it coincides with NAT too). If not key, check if your firewall blocks your port to mp games. Try this, if non works, we can try something else.

NAT has nothing to do with cd keys! Check if your firewall/modem/router supports nat routing and check if the medieval 2 ports are open/forwarded. gamespy ports * 6667 (IRC) * 3783 (Voice Chat Port) * 27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat) * 28900 (Master Server List Request) * 29900 (GP Connection Manager) * 29901 (GP Search Manager) * 13139 (Custom UDP Pings) * 6515 (Dplay UDP) * 6500 (Query Port) m2tw TCP 27750 UDP 27750

It is not suppose to behave like that with such commands concerning cd-key but it did. my fire wall tries to find the ports itself via auto configue for any game unless specific if closed ports - very rare.

With a false cd key you cant play online :?

Decimus Aquila- 06-04-2007

With a false cd key you cant play online :? Yep, i know, never did. Instead of telling me false CD-key, it mentioned NAT failed. That is why I mentioned the NAT command is not for false CD-key, but instead it showed.

Computers are stupid things- they just give out what the programmers made them do ( at best!!). First thing always to do is to check your CD key - it's held in the registry (ask if you don't know where). Make sure that your letter B is letterB and not number 8, your letter O is letter O and not number 0 (zero) etc. I always kept my CDkeys as a download from my registry - that way I can always compare them with a Notepad file of what I THINK my CD key is. After that, kawasiki is correct. Check your firewall settings - not that I've ever had any problem with any of the 4 firewalls I've used. If you still have problems, either pray to your God or ask for more help. BTW - I'm still online in the forum - even though I now only have Guest access. I will give any help I can.

This may work or not, but still worth a shot isn't it? 1) Go to this page (or any other page, that shows your current "dynamic" ip): http://www.showmyip.com/ 2) Your ip from this page you have to insert into "medieval2.preference.cfg", here: [network] use_ip = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx Start playing

you can get nat probs with windows firewall or your routers firewall,in a lot of cases it is normally the router firewall,i used to get it on Rome when i first put my router in.Try turning a firewall off.I did and Rome was ok.Don't know about Med2 tho.Need to try it with Med2 cos i got nat Failure 2 nite lol

TheSteelGeneral- 06-11-2007

In order to mess about with your router/firewall, you need the IP address of the router. The details will have been in the manual provided in the box. If you've lost it, let me know what router you have and I'll get it's IP address for you. Then, all you do is run up IE (or whatever) and type in the address. You'll need to log on - again, the details would have been in the manual, but if you've lost it, once again just ask. And when you are messing with it, always connect to your router by a LAN cabla, not wireless. Each router has its own way of doing things, but it should be straightforward enough to do what Kawasaki said earlier. As I said earlier in this thread, none of my routers have ever kept me from playing online. But screwing up your CD key really stops you!! And sometimes the messages you get back (like NAT failure) are just a blind. TSG
